For the U.S. Certified Flight Instructor-Airplane, it's a Commercial Pilot certificate with an Instrument-Airplane rating, two knowledge test (computerized written exams), and then training to proficiency for the practical test... in many locations, the practical test must be taken with an FAA inspector, rather than with a designated examiner.
