On the ice question: Myth. Ice can form in many other places besides clouds...one example is supercooled water droplets that fall from the sky, but they do not form ice until they impact something on the way down, like your wing. :-)

Legendary Moments #1 - Phillips 66 Aviation's 85th Anniversary: Clarence Clark became Frank Phillips' chief pilot for Phillips Petroleum in 1930 at the age of 26 and is known as one of the nation's most prolific corporate aviators. Only 26 at the time, Clark was fresh from testing aircraft for Travel Air, where logs show that he test-piloted 667 planes in one year alone. In all likelihood, he tested the Woolaroc, the plane Art Goebels used to win the famous Dole Race in 1927. A piece of original Woolaroc fabric was among Clark’s personal effects when he died at age 84.
