I am the Lead Instructor and Coordinator for an Aircraft Rescue Training Expo Event happening this July for firefighters and first responders and as of today we have 23 aircraft (20 rotor & 3 fixed) attending the “hands-on” portion of the class.  Of those aircraft, only one is a R22/44 and we are looking for more aircraft to attend.  If you live in the Ohio area and are free on Saturday July, 14 and might be interested, please contact me for more details.  Thank you!

oh you can def build your hours. just depends what helicopter you get. if you fly Apaches then you probably wont fly as much. Trust me, i know it aint free (sure was fun though). i gave the army 7 years of my life ;)

Brent - I understand what you mean, after all, what makes them fly? Money... and by order, I mean should I go for ratings, then maybe pursue a degree later on, or degree then ratings, or at the same time?

Patric - I'm not opposed to the military, but I've heard that you just can't build hours as a military pilot like one could many years ago. And it's "free," but not free... ya know?

You could always join the military and get trained for free... but then you're in the military hahaha

It all depends on what kind of funding you can get.  To be a helicopter pilot, its not necessary to have a degree, but it doesnt hurt.  What do you mean an order?

So with the times being how they are, would you suggest going to college and attending flight training at the same time? I've been told by others to get a degree, then learn to fly also. Is there an order that you would suggest? (Anybody else reading can feel free to chime in, all advise is appreciated!)

They mainly complained about the price of the helicopters and instruction.  Yes it is on top of the degree, you basically do your ground at Embry Riddle, and your flight at Universal, but the ground classes at Embry does not teach everything, nor are they that thorough, so you would still be doing some ground at Universal.  I did an intro flight with Universal and loved it every since, thats how i got into flying.

Brent - What sort of things would the students be complaining about? And is this price on top of the degree, or do the university and UHI have a program of combining the costs somehow? Also, may I ask how you got into flying yourself?
