Kent,

We are using the Seconite system for the Stearman projects and used PolyFiber for a Super Cub project; the PolyFiber has some advantages (to start with it uses only one type of dope to seal the fabric) but we'll find out in the long run which works best.

Thanks for your pointers to the sites for the markings and I am looking forward to seeing more pictures of your progress.

Best regards,  Joost

Hi Joost,

Thank you for the nice compliment.  They aren't perfect, but we are really proud of the way things are coming together.  Are you a member of the Stearman Restorers Association?  If not, their website is www.stearman.net.  They have an excellent forum there with a huge wealth of information.  There have been several discussions there about correct markings.  Here are three additional links to further information on correct markings along with other beneficial Stearman information.

I believe that if you drill down through the opencockpit website you will find equivalent drawings for Army markings as well.

The best source of information for correct markings is Ken Wilson.  For approximately $500US he will research the particular airplane you are restoring and provide a complete stencil kit that has all of the insignia and part numbers with dates along with instructions for correct placement.  I don't have his contact information but can get that for you if you want to pursue this route.

Hope this helps you.  By the way, what fabric process are you using?

Kent,

Do you have access to a Tech. Order with details on the markings (size/location) including the partnumber markings on the control surfaces and wings. I am searching for this to complete a rebuild in the Netherlands.

Your wings look great!
