On this day in 1990 this Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird made its final flight and set a new speed record flying between Los Angeles, CA to Washington, DC in 1 hour, 4 minutes, averaging 3,418 kph (2,124 mph). Upon arrival at Dulles International, the aircraft was turned over to the Smithsonian and is now on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA.
