Hey John. Things are quite well here at KORL. Going through basic indoc at the Flight School. Going to teach as well as fly 135 for them. Joined the FAASTeam and have an article in next months NAFI mentor. Flying a C172 N and S along with a 2009 C-182. Getting use to the G1000. Hi to the old Gang. Miss all of you. Bill
You state you been in toastmasters for 2 years. Have done some writing. Are a FAASTeam member and have been presenting FAA Safety Seminars for several years. I am listed in EAA's Speakers Bureau. You worked with Kathleen O'Brien-- Wow .. We need to talk !Kathleen was on our remote crew for the Studio for years. She wrote and presented for us at the studio and was also an MC during SUN 'n FUN.
John: You say you are looking for a way to get involved in media/journalism and aviation, but I lack the contacts. You say you have very limited experience in media/journalism.but have been involved in the operational side of it.
What do you want to do speak, write, announce, work in front of the mike or camera or behind the mike or camera. What is your background / experience in aviaton or any type or presentation or production work? We conduct aviation training and production training / presentation at the studio in Lakeland .. we do work with some out of town folks on a limited basis. Toastmaster Internation is great for public speaking about $40-$50 / to join. Some community colleges have simular training however, it is not on going. Some local PBS stations have training programs for local community.- I am not sure of that cost.
Post production (computer editing) is taught at colleges and specialty schools. Future Media Conecpt have beginning courses for about $1,000 for 3 day initial. After about 3 years and 2 more upgrades (schools) you would be tested for certification... Much like pilot training.
In Florida I am a member of the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association, Media Communications Association -Internation, and other production / engineering
originizations in order to make contacts. I am sure there are simular groups in your area.
The FAA Production Studios is a joint effort of the National Aviaton Safety Foundation and the FAA. I worked at the facility in Lakeland for about 20 years and then retired in Dec 2010. I was then elected to the Presidence of the NASF.. Out of the frying pan into the fire.
We are now working with folks from all over the world and all divisions of the FAA. It is a non-profit. So no pay but I get to work with lots of neat folks in many locations.
We are in the middle of a 10 million dollar fund raiser.. right now so operational funds are not high on the hit list.. But that is what we need in order to keep the programing alive. Let me know if you are in Orlando.. we have a studio here that we use also.
