Susan: I did not get in until late last night.  I had a meeting with the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association, FMPTA, and was shot.  Today is a busy day also.  Now.. I see that we are now friends on HangarChat - that is great.. That is one way to connect to other aerial photographers.  Ok you are not a pilot. Have you flown in General Aviation (small aircraft) before.  If not I suggest you just go for a short hop at your local airport.  You profile does not have a lot of info.. so I have to ask these silly  questions.  You also asked about equipment.  Are you current a shooter?  If not- what is the purpose of the aerial photos.  Pleasure, fun, business..just a wild hair?   Equipment.. lot of good stuff from a low cost to VERY high.  I use Nikon.. I grew up in film and transitioned to digital.   Nikon has great on line and in person class from a few hours to a few days. Cannon and others are much the same.. It just depend on what YOU want.  HangarChat has a great photo section as does AOPA and EAA.  Look at them .. see what trips your trigger. : )  .  We have several folks on our crew some of which are on HangarChat that may live cose to you.  OJT is alway great.  I remember from Nikon School from years ago .."There are Picture Takers and There are Picture Makers" both are fine .. but what do you want to be?   Glad to talk anytime.. however.. If I am in the middle of something I may ask you to call back.

Thanks Obie. How would I connect to other aerial photographers? Is there a secret club and will that secret club be at EAA? LOL! I basically want to take boat photos on the Great Lakes., I'm not the pilot.  Can you direct me to where I can purchase equipment,  general info technique & the secret handshake?  I appreciate the help.

Susan:  Are you a pilot?  Are you wanting to shoot from an aircraft or helicopter.  Either can be a lot of fun.  If you have never shot from the air.. A couple of tips.. On a hot bumpy day.. looking thur a long lens an upset some folks stomach a little.  Make sure that the pilot has flown shooter before and will obey the altitude rules and is await for air traffic in the area.  Most of the time we shoot with the door off, however, you need to be confortable to begin with.  Talk to other shooters that have shot for several years.  You can get some great shots and have lots of fun.   *** OBIE ***
