When 24 is in use the VOR 24 Approach has always been the Approach in use - until this past weekend. I noticed on the ATIS RNAV 24 was mentioned as the Approach in use and sure enough when Flint turned me over to Detroit ATC they told me to expect RNAV 24, which they then assigned. Has anyone else noticed this? Will the RNAV approach now be the one assigned? I am hoping this is the case because it is a lot easier to just transition to the RNAV approach than the VOR one. With WAAS it also gives me glideslope, which is nice. In the past I always thought that Detroit Approach favored using the VOR approach because it keeps you away from the Willow Run airport (and from Detroit). Coming in from the north Det. App. vectored us so that we intercepted the Approach a couple miles from the FAF, so doing this kept us out of the way of Willow Run. Curious if others have had the same experience recently.
